Introduction

As time passes memories dim, people come and go, and events once considered important fade into the past and are forgotten. The Hudson Valley Woodcarvers have accomplished much in their relatively brief period of existence and it would indeed be a shame for this to happen. This history has been compiled and will be updated, and perhaps condensed and republished at some future date, for the benefit of those who wish to learn more about the club, to do research, or are otherwise interested in club activities.

The historical events for the period December 1975, when the club was organized, through 1986 have been condensed and are covered in PART III - ORGANIZATION AND EARLY History OF THE CLUB. Beginning in 1986 it was decided to change the club year from an annual basis beginning in January and ending in December to a biannual basis beginning in September and ending in June of consecutive years. This was done to coincide with the term of the Arlington Middle School in Poughkeepsie where meetings were then being held. Since the school was closed in July and August informal "GetTogethers'' were held during these months at some members house. Annual updates to this history will therefore cover a part of two calendar years beginning in 1987. I want to extend my thanks to JOY BAUER, JIM CURRAN, FRED CLARK, JOE MORALLO,.DICK MORSE and other early members of the club for their assistance in doing the necessary research to compile this work.

Sincerely, Walt Vandigriffe
